A flat back holds your spine and nothing else. This one wraps, so your shoulders have somewhere to go when you turn sideways to talk to the person next to you — which is what people actually do at a dining table once the plates have been cleared.

It wipes, and that is the whole argument

The shell is upholstered in faux leather. Spaghetti sauce, a knocked glass of red, small sticky hands — all of it comes off with a damp cloth instead of turning into a stain-removal project. Fabric dining chairs look better for a year. These look the same in year five.

Slim wooden legs, so it does not look heavy

The upholstery stops at the shell. Underneath are four tapered rubberwood legs with a slight splay, which is what keeps a fully upholstered chair from reading as a lump. A lot of chair on a small footprint — 19 inches wide, so six fit around a 63-inch table without touching.

The one to put where the mess happens

If you are mixing chairs, this is the pair for the side of the table where the kids sit. Ships flat-packed, with the legs bolting into the shell. Pull the bolts up tight after a month — every wooden chair loosens slightly as it settles, and thirty seconds then saves a wobble later.
