Day to day: A soft cloth with warm water and a drop of mild soap, then wipe the soap off and dry. Do not leave a wet glass standing on the top overnight — melamine handles it better than lacquer, but nothing handles it forever.

Drawers: If one starts to stick in humid weather, rub a candle stub or a bar of soap along the runners.

Avoid: Abrasive pads and scouring powders, which dull melamine permanently.
