To clean: Vacuum in short, overlapping strokes, using the crevice nozzle around the seams and under the cushions.

Treating stains: Blot spills straight away with a clean dry cloth, then use a water-based upholstery cleaner and blot with a microfibre cloth. Do not scrub.

The covers come off: Unzip and wash on a gentle cycle in cold water with a mild detergent. Zip the cover closed before it goes in the machine. Line dry, and put it back on while it is still slightly damp for the best fit.

To maintain: Turn and plump the cushions weekly, and keep out of prolonged direct sunlight.

Wide enough to sit sideways

A 38 inch square lounge chair with one enormous seat cushion, a back cushion you disappear into, and a slipcover that runs all the way to the floor. Technically it seats one. In practice it seats one adult, one kid and a dog, and nobody is uncomfortable.

Feather blend, flanged seams

Seat and back are filled with a feather and polyester fibre blend over a pine frame with sprung, webbed suspension. The exposed flange seams along the cushion edges are the look, not a defect.
