Arms low enough to still tuck under the table

Most chairs with arms will not go all the way in, so they stand out into the room looking like they are waiting for something. The Moana's arms are cut low and sweep straight into the back, so you get the enclosed feel of a carver and still push the chair right under a 29.5-inch table.

A tub back is a slower way to sit

The shell comes round the sides, so you can lean one way or the other without finding a hard edge. That is the difference between a chair you eat in and a chair you stay in long after the plates have gone. Put these two at the ends of the table where people linger.

Walnut legs, wipe-clean shell

The frame is rubberwood in a walnut finish, which gives it some depth against pale wood or a stone top. The upholstery is faux leather, so it takes a damp cloth — not something you can say about a boucle carver at three times the price.

Two carvers, or a whole set

Sold as a pair, which is how most people use them — two at the ends, armless chairs down the sides. They are the natural end chairs for the Kona, whose walnut finish they match. Ships flat-packed; the legs bolt into the shell.
