The stone top: Wipe with a soft damp cloth and warm water, then dry to avoid water spotting. Sintered stone is non-porous, so spills sit on top — wipe them up when you can. For anything stubborn, use a pH-neutral cleaner and a non-abrasive cloth. No sealing or polishing is required.

Avoid on the top: Abrasive pads, scouring powders, and bleach-based or acidic cleaners. Do not set very hot items directly on the surface.

The fluted fronts: Dust along the grooves with a dry soft brush or a vacuum brush head. Fluting collects dust in a way a flat front does not, and this is the one bit of upkeep the design asks for. Wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry straight away.

The drawers: Keep the runners clear of dust. Do not overload a single drawer with heavy items at one end.

Placement: Keep out of long direct sunlight and away from heat vents, which can fade a wood finish over time.

Sintered stone is made to read like quarried stone, so tone and veining vary from piece to piece. Wood finishes also vary and can read slightly warmer or cooler in your room than they do on screen.

Stone on top, because that's where the glasses go

This is the surface that collects wet glasses, remotes and a plant somebody overwatered. The sintered stone top is non-porous, so none of it leaves a mark — and it doesn't scratch when the console gets shoved across it during a cable hunt.

Fifteen inches deep, which is the number that matters

Long where you have the wall, shallow where you have the walkway. It sits tight in a narrow living room and still leaves room to get past behind the sofa. Real pine drawers underneath take the controllers, the cables and the remote for a device you no longer own. One thing it asks of you: run a dry brush down the flutes now and then. Grooves hold dust that flat fronts don't.

Why we called it the Reed

Reeding is the old cabinetmaker's word for exactly this — rows of soft vertical ribs cut into a face. It's also what grows at the water's edge, in long warm lines, which is roughly what this does to a blank wall. There's a matching Reed coffee table in the same walnut and the same stone, if you want the room to agree with itself.
