Corners rounded almost all the way to a curve

This is the softest piece in the range. The radius on the front corners is big enough that it reads as a rounded form rather than a box with the edges taken off — which is exactly what you want at hip height, beside a bed, in the dark.

Two drawers and a plinth that sets back

No handles, no legs. The fronts pull from a recess and the base steps in underneath, so the whole thing looks lifted rather than planted. Small, but it is the difference between a nightstand that disappears into the room and one that squats in it.

The same walnut as the rest of the Wailea

One veneer across the chests, the vanity and this. Buy a pair for either side of the bed and add the tall chest later; nothing will have shifted colour in the meantime because it is the same finish from the same factory. Veneer over MDF, which stays flat in Hawaii humidity.

Low and small — this one sits below the top of most mattresses, which is the older and better way to do a bedside table. Reachable lying down, invisible standing up. Sold individually, so buy one or buy two.
